According to Arabic legend, opals fell from the sky in bolts of lightning. Meanwhile, Australian aborigines believed that the Creator came to Earth on a rainbow, leaving these colourful stones where his feet touched the ground. Often worn to bring good luck, opal has been a continual favourite down the years.
