Although the watch chain has been in circulation since the 16th Century, the Albert watch chain was introduced much later. Named after Prince Albert (1819-1861), consort to Queen Victoria, who popularised the look of wearing one's pocket watch on a chain with a T-Bar at one end so that it may be secured through a waistcoat's button-hole.

The style has evolved over time so that these practical elements have become decorative and are worn as pendants.
